It has been a while since I’ve written anything on this blog, but that time has passed and I’m back!
We are talking about composition in design. We are analysing books, newspapers, magazines, and posters hunting principles and ideas for own projects.
Because of this, I’m looking for inspiring design in books around me. I found a book called «Tusen Hjem» (A thousand homes) I found very inspiring. The purpose of the book is personal growth in small tight-knit home communities.
I found this book very inspiring. I’m not much of a painter myself, but every page, photo and illustration reminds me a lot of old flower books. The oil painting mixed with hard outlines.

I find the use of negative space and illustration style relaxing and inspiring – not to mention fitting considering the topic of personal growth.
This page has contrast, repetition and negative space working together in a good way. This is why I think this page works so well communicating the the message written on the page to the right.
